About This Course

Navigation and passage planning in ice is away from normal therefore the trainee must familiarize with passage planning in or near ice, ice types, effects of wind and current, basic rules for navigation in ice, preparations to be done before entering ice, cold weather operations, and icebreaker operations.

On completion trainees will be aware of ice physics and movement, power and manoeuverability in ice, different considerations that apply in passage planning and human factors related to cold weather operations.

Even the possibility of the presence of ice during a passage can be cause for delay, rerouting or, if not handled judiciously, damage to the ship.
